Pork Belly Nirvana

While standing in line for our first taste of Roy Choi's sensational Kogi BBQ taco truck in Venice beach, a loyal patron recommended that we try chef Choi's new hole-in-the-wall restaurant in Culver City. After one bite of his Korean taco, my sister and I were convinced that a trip to his dive was warranted.

Culver City is the ugly sister of Santa Monica, just southeast of where the 10 and 405 freeway meet. Located in a small strip mall in the 3300 block of Overland avenue is Pork Belly Nirvana - Chego
restaurant. Chego is tiny with three communal dining tables squeezed inside the space but very big in foodie sex appeal. My sister and I had to restrain ourselves from ordering the whole menu to take home to the hungry tribe waiting at home. The menu definitely catered to our tastes especially with the triumvirate of godly Asian delights - rice, egg and meat. So we settled on their best items. The One Chubby Pork Belly was an incredible dish, perfectly charred with just enough spice to make you want more and more. I just added a new dish to my deathbed list. Let me just tell you that everything was delicious and memorable. From the juicy Tiny's Prime Rib Rice Bowl to the Charred Asparagus.

If you would rather skip the twitter deal on finding the location of the Kogi BBQ truck, then make your way to Culver City and guarantee yourself a piece of Asian nirvana in a bowl. Forget lunch, Chego is only open from 6pm to midnight.

I believe this is Chef Roy taking a break
from the craziness in his Chego kitchen.
